Bamboo Cutlery to Make Mealtimes Easier for People with Alzheimer's Disease

Do You Have a Loved One Suffering from Alzheimer's Disease and Have Trouble Eating their Food?

Invest in Bamboo Cutlery to Help Them Eat Easily.

My Story

Alzheimer's disease is something that's very close to the team at My Little Panda.

You see, my mum is suffering from last-stage Alzheimer's disease, and my wife tends to her every need, ensuring that she has the care and support she deserves during this trying time.

Watching my lovely mother go through such pain at this stage in life has driven me to look for ways in which I can help her and make ordinary tasks such as eating simpler for her. One way I try to do this is by using bamboo cutlery for mealtimes.

Prevalence of Alzheimer's Disease and Dementia

Just to paint you a picture: did you know there are more than 850,000 people living with dementia in the UK alone? This means that 1 in every 14 people of the population aged 65 and above is suffering from it. Researchers predict that at the current rate, there will be more than 1.5 million people living with dementia in the UK by 2040.

Keep in mind that Alzheimer's disease is the most common form of dementia. It is a progressive disease that worsens over time, resulting in loss of thinking skills, severe memory loss, and an inability to perform everyday tasks.

How Bamboo Cutlery Benefits People with Alzheimer's Disease

The link between bamboo cutlery and Alzheimer's disease is quite unheard of. However, the truth is that bamboo cutlery can play a major role in facilitating those suffering from this debilitating and heart-breaking ailment.

Softer on the Teeth

Alzheimer's disease has made my mum forget how to eat, and she often ends up biting down hard on metal cutlery. Nothing brings me more pain than watching the beautiful lady who raised me struggle in such a way. Fortunately, bamboo cutlery is soft on her teeth, unlike stainless steel cutlery which is extremely hard and can possibly damage her teeth and mouth. Now, even if my mum bites hard on the spoon or fork, I can breathe easy that she doesn't injure herself in any way.

Better Grip

Unlike steel or plastic cutlery that slips easily, bamboo cutlery is quite easy to hold. In fact, it is specially moulded to make it easier and more comfortable to grip. This is a great benefit for my mum, who struggles to use regular cutlery.

Moreover, bamboo cutlery also has slightly thicker handles than plastic and steel spoons. This allows for an easier grip.

No Fear of Injury

Since steel and plastic cutlery is difficult to hold, it often slips from an Alzheimer's patient's hands and ends up landing on their lap or feet. This can injure them seriously, particularly if it's a sharp cutlery item such as a knife or fork.

Fortunately, bamboo cutlery's lightweight feature helps solve this problem. Even if a spoon or fork does slip from my mum's hand, it doesn't end up hitting her too hard and protects her from accidentally injuring herself. What more could I possibly want?

Source of Antioxidants

Did you know that bamboo has plenty of health benefits for those living with Alzheimer's disease? Yes, it's true.

Studies have shown that bamboo is an excellent and rich source of antioxidants, and it can be beneficial for several chronic diseases such as Alzheimer's disease, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, Parkinson's, and cancer.

By using organic bamboo cutlery, you can confer its health benefits to your loved ones.

Customizable

The bamboo cutlery set by My Little Panda allows various customization options. You can get your loved one's name engraved in the cutlery pieces or add a nice, sweet line reminding them just how much you love them! This is sure to bring a smile to their face and make them feel more at ease while they eat.
